The Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Tirumala performs a continuous cycle of rituals (sevas) every single day, following the ancient Vaikhanasa Agama tradition. A "seva" here is participation in a temple ritual on payment of a fixed fee — a practice TTD formally calls Arjitha Seva ("Arjitham" means darshan or seva to the Lord on payment of a fee fixed by the temple management).

This guide covers every major seva: what it is, when it happens, the approximate ticket price, which deity it is performed to (Moolavirat vs Utsavamoorthy), and exactly how to book.

Important note on prices: TTD revises seva rates from time to time, and online payments carry a small transaction charge. Always confirm the exact current fee on the official portal ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in before paying. The prices below are indicative figures based on recent TTD quota releases.

First, understand: Moolavirat vs Utsavamoorthy

This is the single most important concept for understanding Tirumala sevas, and most pilgrims get it wrong.

Tirumala Temple Sevas: Complete List, Timings, Prices, and Booking Guide (2026)

Moolavirat (Dhruva Bera / the Mool Murti) — This is the main, fixed, self-manifested idol of Lord Venkateswara standing in the Garbha Gruha (sanctum sanctorum). It is never moved. Sevas performed directly to the Moolavirat are the most sacred and most sought-after — Suprabhatam, Thomala, Archana, the weekly Abhishekam, Tiruppavada, and Ekanta Seva all happen here, inside the sanctum.

Utsavamoorthy (Utsava Bera) — "Malayappa Swamy" — This is the processional bronze deity of Lord Venkateswara, brought out with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. The festival-style sevas that happen outside the sanctum — Kalyanotsavam, Arjitha Brahmotsavam, Unjal Seva (Dolotsavam), Vasanthotsavam, and Sahasra Deepalankara Seva — are all performed to Malayappa Swamy, not the main idol.

So when you book Kalyanotsavam, you witness the wedding of the processional deity. When you book Abhishekam, you witness a sacred bath of the main idol — a far rarer privilege, with the famous Nijapada Darshanam (viewing of the Lord's holy feet).

A. Daily Sevas (performed to the Moolavirat — Lord Venkateswara)

These open and close the Lord's day inside the sanctum.

1. Suprabhatam Seva

  • What it is: The "awakening" ritual. The Lord is gently woken with the recitation of the Venkatesa Suprabhatam hymn composed by Prativadi Bhayankaram Annangaracharya.
  • Deity: Moolavirat (main idol)
  • Timing: Approximately 2:30–3:00 AM daily. Reporting around 2:30 AM at the queue complex.
  • Approx. price: Around ₹120–₹500 per person depending on category (released in a separate limited e-Dip quota).
  • Special: The most intimate seva — you see the Lord first, in the silence before dawn, before any crowd.

2. Thomala Seva

  • What it is: Decoration of the Lord with garlands and flowers ("Thomala" = garland in Tamil).
  • Deity: Moolavirat
  • Timing: Approximately 3:30–4:00 AM (on most days performed as Ekantam / privately; on Fridays it shifts to after Abhishekam, ~7:00–8:00 AM).

How to Book Tirumala Sevas (Step by Step)

All bookings are online only through the official portal. There is no same-day counter sale for most arjitha sevas.

  1. Go to the official site: ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in (or the official TTD Govinda app). This is the only genuine portal — avoid agents and third-party sites.
  2. Create an account / log in using your registered mobile number and OTP. Keep a passport-size photo (under 10 KB) and ID proof ready.
  3. Check the monthly quota calendar. Tickets are released roughly one to three months in advance, in stages, on announced dates. For example, the September 2026 quota opened across June 18–24, 2026.
  4. Navigate to "Seva Booking" / "Arjitha Seva."
  5. Select your seva and date. Green = available, Red = filled, Blue = not yet released.
  6. For high-demand sevas (Suprabhatam, Thomala, Archana, Abhishekam, Ashtadala), you apply through the Electronic Dip (e-Dip / lucky dip). You register first; if selected in the lottery, you pay within the given window to confirm.
  7. Enter devotee details — name, age, and government ID number (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving Licence, or Passport) for each person.
  8. Pay online (UPI, Credit/Debit card, Net Banking). Booking is confirmed only after successful payment.
  9. Download the e-ticket (available in Booking History on the app) and carry it with the original matching ID on the day.

Offline / Current Booking option

A small daily quota exists at the CRO (Central Reception Office) via lucky dip registration — for example, around 80 Kalyanam tickets per day, registration 11:00 AM–5:00 PM, results at 6:00 PM. This is not guaranteed.

Key Rules and Tips

  • Reporting point: Most arjitha sevas gather at Vaikuntham Queue Complex (VQC). Report 30–45 minutes before the seva time.
  • Dress code: Traditional attire is mandatory — men in dhoti/pyjama-kurta, women in saree/salwar.
  • No electronics: Mobile phones, cameras, and devices are strictly prohibited inside; deposit them in the cloakroom.
  • No cancellation / no refund: TTD follows a strict no-refund policy for arjitha sevas. Miss it, and you forfeit the ticket.
  • One booking per ID per period: Often a 180-day gap between confirmed sevas using the same ID.
  • Sevas can be cancelled on eclipse days and major festivals (e.g., several sevas were cancelled during the March 3, 2026 lunar eclipse).
  • Prasadam: Seva participants typically receive special prasadam (laddu, vada, and seva-specific offerings like vastram for Kalyanam).
